Al-Sarajiyya Fortress is a historic fortress located in the old city of Taiz, Yemen. It was built during the Rasulid period in the 13th century AD, when Taiz flourished as a major political and economic center. The fortress formed part of the defensive system that protected the city and its surrounding routes, and its strategic position allowed it to monitor the movement of caravans and travelers approaching Taiz. The fortress is believed to have derived its name from its historical role in guiding caravans at night by using fire signals or lights. Through this function, it served as a supporting defensive point for Al-Qahira Fortress and helped safeguard the trade routes that connected Taiz with other regions of Yemen.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The landmarks of Ta’iz City.
