Assamo Terrestrial Protected Natural Area
Assamo Terrestrial Protected Natural Area is a nature reserve located in the Ali Sabieh region, southeast of Djibouti. The reserve is considered the natural habitat of the Beira antelope (Dorcatragus megalotis), a small antelope that lives only in the arid and mountainous terrain of the Horn of Africa in Djibouti, Somalia, and Ethiopia.
The diet of the Beira antelope corresponds to the vegetation of the area, which consists of various plants, especially shrubs. The Assamo Terrestrial Protected Natural Area has retained its authenticity and integrity despite natural and climatic influences, as well as human activities such as shrubs cutting and other interference.
Assamo Terrestrial Protected Natural Area was submitted in 2015 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Djibouti.
