Quttinirpaaq National Park
Quttinirpaaq National Park is a national park located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada, on the northeastern corner of Ellesmere Island. After Northeast Greenland National Park, it is the world's second most northern park.
Quttinirpaaq means "top of the world" in Inuktitut, one of the principal Inuit languages of Canada. The two main features of Quttinirpaaq National Park are rock and ice.
With relatively little yearly precipitation, it is a polar desert. The park's highlands are mostly encased in ice caps.
The park has Barbeau Peak, Nunavut's tallest mountain at 2,616 meters. This national park is home to some species, including Arctic hares, lemmings, muskoxen, and Arctic wolves, although the scant vegetation and cold temperatures only support small populations.
Additionally, there is a little Peary caribou population.
Quttinirpaaq National Park was submitted in 2004 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Canada.
