Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound Glass Sponge Reefs Marine Protected Area is a 2410 km2 marine protected area located off the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada. The marine protected area was created to conserve the biological variety, structural habitat, and ecosystem function of four glass sponge reefs.
These are the world’s largest glass sponge reefs and the first living specimens discovered.
Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound Glass Sponge Reefs Marine Protected Area was submitted in 2018 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Canada.
