Kharga Oasis

Kharga Oasis

The Kharga Oasis is a natural depression located west of the Nile in the southern part of the Western Desert of Egypt. The oasis includes a distinguished group of floating and submerged aquatic plants, in addition to algae and sandy plants.
The Kharga Oasis, especially the western region of it, also represents one of the last natural habitats in which the Dorcas gazelle (ariel gazelle) lives. Dorcas gazelle is also found in Kurkur and Dunqul Oasis (Dungul), which are located in the south of the Western Sahara and are also characterized by biodiversity, where we see the highly vulnerable and extremely rare sand cat, in addition to palm groves and extensive growth of Acacia groves.

Kharga Oasis was submitted in 2015 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Egypt as part of Kharga Oasis and the Small Southern Oases.
