    Wasit is an Islamic city built by al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf in c. 702 AD on the west bank of the Tigris. It is located in Wasit Governorate, south east of Kut in eastern Iraq.
    The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Wasit.
