Umm el-Jimal (also spelled Umm al-Jimal) is a historic village in northern Jordan, renowned for its extensive and well-preserved archaeological remains. The site is best known for the prominent ruins of a Byzantine and early Islamic town, which remain clearly visible above ground, alongside the remnants of an earlier Roman settlement located to the southwest of the later structures. Together, these layers reflect Umm el-Jimal’s long occupation and its strategic and cultural significance across multiple historical periods. Umm el-Jimal was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024
