The construction of the fort dates back to the mid-nineteenth century AD in order to defend against Ottoman attacks at that time. It consists of four main towers and a defensive wall with small round towers. There are also two square watchtowers near the fort.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The Rural Cultural Landscapes of Sarawat Mountains.
