Anazarbus
Anazarbus, Ain Zarba was an ancient Cilician city. It was located in Anatolia in modern Turkey. The city was first founded by Assyrians in the 1st century BC. Anazarbus played a considerable part in the struggles between the Byzantine Empire and the early Muslims. It had been rebuilt by Harun al-Rashid in 796 AD, refortified at great expense by the Hamdanid Sayf al-Dawla in mid-10th century AD, and again destroyed in 962 AD by Nikephoros II Phokas.
