Hobyo Grasslands and Shrublands are a desert ecoregion located near the city of Hobyo in Somalia. The ecoregion includes a strip of coastal sand dunes that spread along the coast of the Indian Ocean from Hobyo in the north to Mogadishu in the south.
The region has a generally hot and dry tropical climate, and due to its proximity to the equator, the temperature varies slightly throughout the year. The vegetation cover is limited to grassland plants and some short shrubs that we see with the sand dunes, and there are dense forests of evergreen shrubs near the coast due to the coastal breeze that carries moisture.
Among the most important animals in the region are the silver dik-dik antelope and the Somali golden mole, which are endemic to the region, in addition to Clarke's gazelle, Soemmerring's gazelle, and Speke's gazelle. As for birds, there are two types of lark endemic to this ecological region (Ash's lark and Obbia lark).
