Oued Saoura
Oued Saoura is a major Saharan wadi in southwestern Algeria, formed by the confluence of Oued Zousfana and Oued Guir. Extending for nearly 600 km, it constitutes the ecological backbone of the Saoura region, sustaining oasis systems, wetlands, and a mosaic of desert habitats.
The wadi supports important ecological processes and biodiversity, including migratory bird corridors and endemic species, and plays a fundamental role in maintaining life in a hyper-arid Saharan environment.
Oued Saoura was submitted in 2025 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Algeria.
