Ancient Georgian Traditional Qvevri Wine-Making Method
Ancient Georgian traditional Qvevri wine-making method is a method of wine-making that derives its name from the earthenware vessel called a Qvevri, an egg-shaped vessel in which wine is fermented and stored in towns and villages across Georgia. Most farmers and city dwellers use this method to make wine which plays a vital role in daily life and in the celebration of Georgian secular and religious events and rituals.
Wine cellars are still considered the holiest place in the family home.
Ancient Georgian Traditional Qvevri Wine-Making Method was inscribed in 2013 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Georgia.
