Xhubleta, Skills, Craftsmanship and Forms of Usage

Xhubleta is a handmade costume or garment worn by women and girls in northern Albania. In the past, the Xhubleta robe was used in daily life from the age of puberty, but in recent decades its use and production declined due to a combination of social, political, and economic factors that greatly affected it.
Today, few women possess the knowledge of that process and the methods of making this garment, also the inheritance and transmission of that knowledge within the family has become a very rare these days as well. Despite all these factors, the Xhubleta garment still retains its social and spiritual importance among the people, and it is still an essential part of the identity of the people of the highlands in northern Albania.

Xhubleta, Skills, Craftsmanship and Forms of Usage was inscribed in 2022 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Albania.
