    Tripoli is the largest city in northern Lebanon and the second-largest city in the country. Tripoli dates back at least to the 14th century BC, the city is famous for the largest Crusader fortress in Lebanon (the Citadel of Raymond de Saint-Gilles), and its Mamluk architectural heritage. El Mina which is the site of the ancient city of Tripolis is dateing back to the Phoenician era, and is one of Lebanon's oldest cities, alongside Byblos, Tyre and Sidon.
    The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The ancient city of Tripoli.
