Tefedest Massif Rock Art
Tefedest Massif Rock Art is a collection of archaeological rock art scenes located in the Tefedest mountain massif within Tamanrasset Province, southern Algeria. The majority of these rock engravings and paintings date to the Neolithic Age, with earlier representations belonging to prehistoric periods and others dating to later phases. The panels depict a wide range of scenes, including pastoral and hunting activities, religious rituals, rivers, meadows, and wildlife, notably animals that have disappeared from the Sahara such as elephants, rhinoceroses, and giraffes. These rock engravings constitute a unique visual record of human settlement in the Sahara over nearly ten thousand years and document the major climatic and environmental transformations experienced by the region.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Tefedest Massif in the Ahaggar Cultural Park.Elevation: 1659 m
