Tata of Sikasso

Tata of Sikasso is a series of defensive ramparts located in Sikasso in the Sikasso region of southern Mali. The walls were built between 1877 and 1897 during the reign of Tieba Traoré, King of the Kénédougou Empire (a kingdom that arose in the southern part of pre-colonial Mali). The walls were later expanded during the reign of his brother, Babemba Traoré. The construction of the walls came to protect the city from the raids of Samori Ture, founder of the Wassoulou Empire.
