Madghacen
Madghacen, also known as Medracen, Medghassen, Madghis, or Imadghassen, is a monumental royal mausoleum-temple associated with the Berber Numidian kings. It is located near the city of Batna in eastern Algeria. Dating to the 3rd century BC, Madghacen is considered one of the earliest and most significant royal funerary monuments in North Africa. Its circular stone structure and monumental scale reflect indigenous Numidian architectural traditions, while also illustrating early Mediterranean influences. The monument stands as a powerful symbol of Numidian political authority and the deep-rooted Berber cultural heritage of the region.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The Royal Mausoleums of Ancient Algeria (from the 4th Century BC to the 6th Century AD).
