    Janjanbureh, old Georgetown, is a town located in Janjanbureh Island (MacCarthy Island) in the Gambia River in the Central River Division of Gambia. The city was founded in 1832 AD when Gambia was part of the British Empire.
    The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Historic Georgetown.
