Göbekli Tepe

Göbekli Tepe is an archaeological tell in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, approximately 12 km northeast of the city of Şanlıurfa. The tell includes two phases of use believed to be of a social or ritual nature dating back to the 10th–8th millennium BC and it was founded by a group by hunter-gatherers, for the purposes of religious rites, especially the burial ceremony. Göbekli Tepe was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.
