  • Dura-Europos House Church

    Dura-Europos House Church is an ancient church and the first house church in the world. The ruins of the church are located within the archaeological site of Dura-Europos, on the banks of the Euphrates River in the Syrian governorate of Deir ez-Zor. The church, which dates back to the year 232 AD, includes a group of frescoes, the most important of which is the one that considered the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ. (Preserved today at Yale University Art Gallery).
    The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Dura Europos.
