    An-Nekhel Fortress is a castle located in the Nekhel Municipality of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It was built by Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qansuh Al-Ghuri in the 16th century AD. The fortress holds a strategic location at the exact center of the peninsula. It has historically been an important stop and staging ground for Muslim pilgrims undertaking the Hajj or Umra.
    The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, The An-Nakhl fortress, a stage on the pilgrimage route to Mecca.
