    Ahlat is a historic town located in Bitlis Province in Eastern Turkey. The history of the city dates back to 900 BC in the Urartu era. But the present castle was built by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent in the 16th century AD .
    The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The Tombstones of Ahlat the Urartian and Ottoman citadel.
