Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe
The ancient beech forests spread over a wide geographical area that includes 18 European countries, and they are an important habitat for many living creatures such as mushrooms, algae, insects, rare birds and other animals. These forests contain an invaluable number of ancient trees and are home to many national reserves and parks.
Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe was inscribed in 1979 in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, France, Germany, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine.
