Pimachiowin Aki
Pimachiowin Aki is a landscape of rivers, lakes, wetlands, and boreal forest that covers parts of Manitoba and Ontario. Pimachiowin Aki is the most complete and largest example of the boreal shield (Taiga) in North America, containing its distinctive biodiversity and biological processes.
Pimachiowin Aki supports a wide range of terrestrial and freshwater habitats, in addition to being rich in nutrients. Among the most important species of animals found in the forest are Woodland Caribou, Moose, Wolf, Wolverine, Lake Sturgeon, Leopard Frog, Loon, and Canada Warbler.
The site has great cultural significance because it contains four traditional territories of the Anishinabe people, a group of indigenous people of North America.
Pimachiowin Aki was inscribed in 2018 in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Canada.
