Cliff of Bandiagara

Cliff of Bandiagara, or Bandiagara Escarpment, is an impressive landscape of craggy cliffs and sandy plateaus dotted with a group of historic villages in the Mopti region of Mali. The cliff is a natural area of unique and exceptional beauty that is the most beautiful of its kind in West Africa.
The site is characterized by a variety of geomorphological features including plateaus, rocky cliffs, and plains, in addition to caves and rock shelters. Among the endemic plants in the natural environment of the region we see the Acridocarpus monodii plant, whose growing area is limited to the slopes, in addition to some specific medicinal plants used by the healers of the Dogon people.
The Bandiagara Escarpment region expresses the harmonious fusion of landscape and social aspects of the rich cultures that inhabited the region, the most famous of which are the Tellem and Dogon people.
