Boucle du Baoulé National Park

Boucle du Baoulé National Park

Boucle du Baoulé National Park is a national park located in western Mali. The park extends over a wide geographical area characterized by its great historical importance, as there are within its lands the Bossofola Forest Reserve, the Badinko Faunal Reserve in the southwest, the Fina Faunal Reserve in the south, in addition to the Kongossambougou Faunal Reserve in the northeast.
The park was established primarily to address environmental threats that negatively affect biodiversity in the region, primarily drought and overgrazing. The territory of the park generally consists of desert and semi-desert areas, where mainly dry savannas with lightly-wooded savannah, riverine forests and thorns prevail.
The park also includes many types of large animals that spread in its diverse environments, the most important of which are lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and African bush elephant.
Boucle du Baoulé National Park was submitted in 1999 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Mali as part of Boucle du Baoulé.
The area was also designated in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) in 1982.
