Practices and Craftsmanship Associated with the Damascene Rose in Al-Mrah

Practices and craftsmanship associated with the Damascene rose are among the practices and handicrafts associated with the medicinal, nutritional, and cosmetic uses of the Damascene rose, which are practiced mainly by farmers and families in the village of Al-Mrah (Al-Marah) in Rif Dimashq Governorate. The Damascene rose begins to bloom in the month of May, and with it the harvest season and the annual festival accompanying it, where farmers participate with their families in picking roses by hand, and then collect rose petals to make rose syrup, jam and pastries, in addition to the rose buds that are dried to make tea.
Pharmacists also sell dried roses because of their medicinal benefits. The festival is attended by many people and is a testament to its cultural importance as part of the region's heritage.
