Fjiri
Fjiri
Fjiri is a type of music that was sung by pearl divers in Bahrain, and its practice dates back to the late nineteenth century. Today, the descendants of pearl fishermen and others interested in preserving this tradition perform it in cultural places called Durs.
Today this practice has reached a wider audience through performances at festivals in all regions of Bahrain and is now well known throughout the country.
Fjiri was inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Bahrain.
