Yukon Ice Patches
Yukon Ice Patches are unique archaeological sites located in Yukon Territory, Canada. The patches, that were formed by layers of accumulated snow, have preserved hundreds of archaeological artifacts, with some more than 9000 years old. Indigenous hunters left behind tools and weapons, which remained encased in ice until the recent effects of climate change began melting these patches. As they recede, artifacts from various historical periods emerge, shedding light on the evolution of Indigenous cultures.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Yukon Ice Patches.Elevation: 1929 m
