Originally built in 1857 AD, it served as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal before being largely destroyed by fire in 1852 and rebuilt. The current structure, designed in a Neo-Gothic style, is part of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) campus and retains its iconic facade and bell tower. Saint Jacques Cathedral remains an important religious and architectural landmark in Montreal, reflecting the city’s rich ecclesiastical history.
