Old Dongola
Old Dongola is a deserted town in Sudan. It was founded in the 5th century AD as a fortress, but a town soon evolved around it. Later with the arrival of Christianity it became the capital of Makuria Kingdom, and several churches were built in the site.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Old Dongola.
