Murzuk Fort, or Murzuq, is a historical fort located in the Murzuq District in the Fezzan region of southwest Libya. The oldest history of the fort dates back to the early 14th century AD, during the Kanem Empire era. After that, the fort developed when the city of Murzuq became the capital of the Awlad Muhammad dynasty, which was founded by Muhammad al-Fasi in the 16th century, and ruled the Fezzan region for nearly three centuries before the arrival of the Ottomans to the region. During the Ottoman era, the castle was expanded and became a residence for the region's ruler.
