    Merouana, ancient Lamasba, is a city in Batna Province, Algeria. The city's founding date back to the era of the Romans in 127 AD when it was called Lamasba. It was a fortress which was damaged by Vandals. It was rebuilt by Byzantines and become a military area for Byzantines military retirees. The fortress was destroyed in the era of Ottoman Empire, then it was re-established as a military base.
    The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Aures park oasis with Rhoufi Gorge and El Kantara.
