Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung
Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung, also known as the Rainy River Burial Mounds or Manitou Mounds, is an archaeological and historical site located in northwestern Ontario, Canada. This site is one of the most significant ancient indigenous burial mound sites in North America, with evidence of habitation and ceremonial use dating back from approximately 5000 years. Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung includes numerous burial mounds, village sites, and artifacts that provide valuable insights into the social, cultural, and spiritual practices of the Ojibwe people and their ancestors. The site is also a sacred place and continues to hold cultural importance for the local Indigenous communities.
