Maiden’s Tower
Maiden’s Tower, also known as Leander’s Tower, is an ottoman era tower located on a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosporus strait in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul, Turkey. It was built on the site of an older structure dating back to the Byzantine area. The Maiden’s Tower was built as a lighthouse in 1725 AD by order of the grand vizier Damat Ibrahim Pasha. The tower was restored in 1832, during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Mahmoud II, and then again in the years 1998 and 2021.
