Homs
Homs, previously known as Emesa, is a city in western Syria and the capital of the Homs Governorate. Excavations at the Citadel of Homs indicate that the earliest settlement at the site dates back to around 2300 BC. The city may have been founded by Seleucus I Nicator who established the Seleucid Empire upon the death of Alexander the Great.
