Haid Al-Jazil and Wadi Daw’an form a distinctive cultural and natural landscape in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen. Wadi Daw’an is one of the region’s most significant valleys, extending through a chain of historic towns and villages closely connected to agriculture, craftsmanship, and trade.
Perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop, the village of Haid Al-Jazil is one of the most striking settlements in the valley, renowned for its traditional architecture built using local materials such as mudbrick, stone, palm trunks, and sidr wood. The valley has been continuously inhabited since pre-Islamic times and remains an important center for agriculture, honey production, and traditional building practices, reflecting a long-standing interaction between human communities and the rugged valley environment.

Haid Al-Jazil and Wadi Daw’an was submitted in 2025 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Yemen.
